you pick the audience before it goes out rather than regretting it after. if nobody is chosen, nobody sees it.

a journal only you can open.
the journal is the one place in sodalite that is encrypted on your device before it is sent. we store the entry and cannot read it. no filter, no scan, no exception.
let's be clear: your messages do not work this way. they are encrypted in our database, but the server does see them so the safety filter can run. then, after this safety scan has completed, it is then encrypted.

controls that live on the server.
a linked parent can set a filter level, block specific words, turn video or voice off for one friend without touching any other chat, and set quiet hours where they won't recieve notifications (or simply restrict them from using it)
every check runs on the server before a message is delivered, so it cannot be switched off from the phone. the server simply won't send the request to your child's device.
parents control what their kid can do. parents do not get a "feed" of what their kid says. we believe that children should have their privacy,

are my messages end-to-end encrypted?
no, and we will not claim otherwise. message text is encrypted in our database, so databreach is ciphertext rather than your conversations. but your device sends the plain text to our server first, because that is where the safety filter runs, and we hold the key that restores your history when you sign in on a new phone. that means we are technically able to read messages. we do not, and a human only sees a messages that are attached to a report, but we are not cryptographically prevented from it and a court order could compel it. real end-to-end encryption and server-side filtering cannot both be true at once. we chose filtering. the tech page(will eventually) walk through the details.
is anything encrypted so that you PHYSICALLY cannot read it?
yes! journal entries. those are encrypted on your device before they are uploaded, so we store them without being able to open them. photos and voice notes are also encrypted by your device before upload, though their keys travel through our server with the message, meaning we could thereoetically still decrypt them.
do you sell my data or run ads?
no, and no. there is no ads business here and there will not be one. the app is free and donations keep it running. we believe you deserve privacy, and no-one should ever have your data.
why is there no password?
to put it simply, passwords are hard to remember and easily compromised.. so, we simply ask you to verify that it's ACTUALLY you, rather than depending on a "password" set by you.
can my kid turn off the parental controls?
no. every check runs on our server before a message is delivered, not on their device. uninstalling, reinstalling, or running a modified client does not change what the server enforces.
